Sugar Snow

So, we finished our trip home on Sunday in a blizzard.  Ended up with about 5 inches of heavy wet snow, and got another 2 inches last night, but above freezing temps in the daytime and high winds are melting it quickly.

But the cold and snow did kick the maple trees back into heavy sap production.

We would have had even more sap….

But the buckets overflowed at some point today, so only 2.5 gallons per tree.  If we had checked and emptied them earlier, perhaps we would have had more.

But I am not complaining, and we are still cooking it down on the stove.  What looked like it was going to be a lean year on maple syrup now looks to be a boomer.  Has the whole house smelling like pancake time.
