Spring Break, Gape Vines, And Things

So, just this last week, myself and the older girls headed down to Red Wing.

Just before, Claire and I emptied the sap buckets.  We are going to finish with close to 2 gallons of finished syrup, which will mean about 60 gallons of sap.  Not a bad season.

Nell and I took a walk up the ravine looking for antler sheds.  Did not find any, but it was a nice hike.

Piliated woodpeckers have been busy.

Nell took most of the photos, so I showed up in a few.

Followed deer trails to the top of the ravine.

Got a pic of Nell by The Sentry Oak.

Just a pic of The Round Barn Farm from the pines on the ridge.

The next day I had a grape vine pruning, trellising, and propagation seminar at Great River Vineyard.

John Marshal owns and runs the place.

I only pruned a few dozen vines.

But I did come away with enough wood to start about 80 more grape vines.

There are a few apple trees down at my parent’s I started from seeds.  Pruned them this weekend.

Don’t remember if I mentioned it before, but my parents have the place up for sale.  When it does sell, I am going to miss it.  Has been a fun place to visit, a great place to hunt deer at, and the only place my kids have known my parents to be at.

Only other piece of news this week was that I broke a tooth on my birthday, which then abscessed and then I had to have pulled.  Feels much better now, but was pretty horrific to go through.

And that was the last week.  Lake ice is starting to go out, so maybe in 2 or 3 weeks I can start planting some things outside.
