Something about taking vacations. This was a happier moment. Patti, Violet and I on a “nature drive” on back roads in northern Minnesota this last week.
This was Phoebe two days after a dog attack (which happened on the first day up north) which was a trauma for a lot of people, though worst for her.
Vacation would have ended 100 miles in if not for wonderful friends who came and picked us up after our transmission went, had us at their home for the night in Duluth, and then provided us with a rental car for the week, and a ride down to pick up our van after it was repaired.
And we did have fun on the vacation, though those first two days, with the auto problem, and then the bite, threw a bit of a shadow over the rest of it.
Violet did her own food gathering.
My brother Matt had the biggest bass of the trip.
Patti picked blueberries.
One hour of picking.
Two hours of picking.
Blueberries were hard to come by, but Patti did manage to put together a quart, plus we had blueberry pancakes for breakfast.
Found lots of frogs out on Mud Hole Road.
Lots of dock fish.
Saw a lot of snowshoe hares, but no grouse. Wonder what we will find hunting this fall up there.
More dock fish.
We made it home today. In our own vehicle. The gardens are absolute jungles. A lot of beans to harvest here at home, and have to pull all the garlic. Hoping my body is up to the amount of work it needs to do in order to get us caught back up to where we need to be.
