M,T,W&Th (or, no rest for the wicked)

The week has been a whirlwind of activity.  Thankfully (sort of) I have not done any planting, though this weekend I may if the weather is not too bad.  We will see.

Monday after work Patti and I worked at mulching leaves from the perennial gardens with the mower, and I worked them into the soil in three of the beds in the back yard.  I broke the mower and then had to learn how to correctly re-coil and re-assemble the pull-cord mechanism on the mower.  <sigh> Tons of fun, but I got it figured out around dark.

Tuesday was more leaf mulching after work, more turning under garden beds in the yard, but thankfully no repairs were necessary to the mower.  I honestly think the only reason we even have a lawn mower is to mulch leaves.  The little bit of grass between the front door and the front gardens could be kept in shape with a clipper.  David was at the Minnetonka garden clearing out the old plants from last year.  That garden is my Thursday project.

Wednesday I had a late appointment, which thankfully was not far from my house so I was not home terribly late, and we once again worked at the leaves, then I dug out three apple trees I grew from seed which were taking over part of the backyard garden, got their root systems buried in a pile of wet mulched leaves (they will go down to the Red Wing garden) and planned the removal of the black walnut in the backyard with my neighbor Corbin who will be the monkey with the chainsaw this weekend while I am his rope man on the ground.  I don’t trust my leg up in a tree.  Corbin is still confident in his body obeying his every command.  I also noticed that the lettuce I planted last week is now up.  Peas are not yet.

Thursday (today) I picked up the chainsaw from my dad for the weekend project with Corbin.  On my way home from work I stopped at the Minnetonka garden, Mark gave me a quick tutorial on how to use his rear-tine tiller (a Craftsman) and I got the garden there tilled, was home by 7, had dinner ready by 730, everyone done eating by 8 and the kids in bed by 830.

The exact plans for the weekend are a bit up in the air.  There is a lot I need to get done, but just what gets done is going to be largely dependent on what others have done.  I am going to need to make some phone calls tomorrow to see just where everything else is.   Either I am going to be finishing working on the Minnetonka garden and planting potatoes there and working on my own yard after the tree removal, or I will be rock picking at the Ness farm, getting all of the beds plotted out, and peas planted there.  We will see.
