Three days straight of harvesting. Rain is coming tonight (well, it started about an hour ago here, it is Wednesday night now) and there were things I wanted to get done before the temps turned cool and things got wet.
We wanted some carrots at the house. Pulled about 10 feet of row. Not real big this year. I never thinned them. Leaving the rest in a while longer. Should put on a bit more with this rain we are getting.
The Victor Kucyk 2175 corn selection was planted where sunflowers were the year prior. There are a few volunteer sunflowers in there and they are quite large. Birds have not found these yet so I am going to leave them until next week before I cut down a lot of them.
This is what happens when you do not thin carrots All Danvers Half Longs here so they were not going to get real long, and there are some good sized ones, but honestly, they could be 3X bigger and not be too big.
Rutabagas are sizing up nicely. This one is a couple of pounds at least.
Promised a neighbor a couple, so this is what we left on her doorstep.
Just a shot of Baby Violet with a bite of carrot.
We pulled selected ears for seed two days in a row. This is what I saved from the first day. Took that much again today.
The rest of the row of Rutabagas to be pulled later.
Baby Violet has sharp teeth. She was actually biting through, chewing, and eating the fairly dry corn.
A fly with a fuzzy body and bee markings. Odd. Had not seen something like this before.
This is the second day (today) of pulling selected corn. Piper ran the whole time. Even put up a hungarian partridge and a few dozen mourning doves.
Last thing was this evening the girls and I pulled every tomato that was ripe or starting to ripen at the Minnetonka garden. Cold weather and rain splits ripening tomatoes so needed to be done now. Of course, now we have about two bushels of tomatoes, from there and our own yard, that have to be dealt with. I think most of these are going to get donated/gifted to some people who had indicated they would appreciate some fresh produce.
