A Wonderful Day At The Orchard

Well, according to the long-term forecasts, this was the last nice day, as far as beautiful, warm fall weather, for the foreseeable future, and we spent 3 hours of it at Homestead/Moondance Orchard.

When we finished the picking, I was really no longer capable of walking.  There was about 40 minutes between that and when Sheila picked us up with the hay wagon where I laid on the ground, back spasmed up and right leg just not cooperating.  Baby Vi enjoyed climbing all over me (and I liked it too).

<grin> and I laid down for the trip back down to the car.  Baby Vi was not quite sure she liked being covered with straw.

The final day’s tally: 4 bushels of Fireside and Honeycrisp apples.  About 200 pounds of apples to deal with this week. Since that Sunday afternoon, we have had cold, wind & rain.  Kids are off of school now for MEA and we are working at getting the house and yard ready for winter.  Tomatoes are still ripening:  no frosts here yet, though the tomatoes are getting a bit ugly.  If anyone local is interested in processing tomatoes I could probably set you up with quite a few.  Send me a note.
