The World Does Not Stop

Just because we are sore, our nights are messed up with dreams that don’t let us sleep more than a few hours in a row, and we don’t have our primary vehicle, does not mean that the fruits of our labors this spring are going to wait.  We have ripe tomatoes NOW in great proliferation.

The top photo is a Rumi Banjan.  Initial flush ripened a sunburst orange for the most part, with a few yellows.  Once again, those ripening in hot weather are a darker color.

The Coldset tomatoes are coming ripe in a rush.  I had a few before I left on vacation.  I picked about 20# today.  This is one of my winners for new types grown this year.  Sturdy plants, good fruit set, nice taste, just waiting now to see how good the red sauce is that I make from them.

I also picked about a half gallon of Galina tomatoes.  For a Siberian variety, it did not seem to mind the heat at all, and dealt with the early cold just fine as well.  These plants grew the most while we were gone on vacation (for my front yard gardens) and really are a wonderfully sweet nice tasting indeterminate cherry that will make the garden next year as well.

Piper kept watch over things while I picked.  She is pretty bruised up from the car wreck, which has slowed her down, but she is also still a happy participant in the family and for that we are thrilled.

Frank is going to be here soon to pick me up to go to the Minnetonka garden as an observer.  He is going to weed things and I am going to take photos.  A muscle relaxant before I go is in order.
