That is the website of the farm we went and spent the day at yesterday. People whom we had met over the internet, with much the same philosophy of life, from different backgrounds, and 4 kids of their own, making what they can of a life of doing it yourself.
We had a blast. I got a workout in on my legs, slogging through the snow, meeting all of the animals, seeing just how it is that they do the things they do (check out their website linked above) talking, and eating copious amounts of wonderful food, an absolute ton of REAL whole milk (and it is way above 4% milkfat. Store bought whole milk tastes like skim in comparison. Crappy cooked skim milk)
I took photos on the walk around their farm, the kids wandered and played in the snowy fields and woods, it was a wonderful time.
Really liked having his horn buds scratched.
Milk and meat cattle just eating what was harvested off of the farm this past summer and fall. Free to range about even in the cold and snow. No soy fed to anything on the farm.
Pigs are actually pastured as well. They are friendly (must not know what is coming) and much cleaner than I remember when I worked on a pig farm as a kid. They are Red & Black Wattle pigs (had never heard of them myslef) and I have to tell you, after partaking of them myself later in the day, they taste incredible. And we are having a smoked shoulder ham from one of them this evening here at home. (sorry, you are not invited, though you can order your own from them if you want to)
They have litters right now. Even in the is cold and snow, though they can get under shelter if they want to. Piglets are cute and curious. Mom is not thrilled about people touching them, but she is the only one who cannot go wherever she wants. Fence has holes big enough for the piglets to get out and wander about. And they do.
Piglets like whole milk too.
I believe these are called “Bacon Seeds”.
Baby Vi got to see and experience it all, and had a blast. She slept well last night, and was not happy at all about saying goodbye yesterday evening.
Kids ranged and played all over the property. Was a happy feeling inside, to have the kids well out of shouting distance, and not be worried about what could happen to them.
Someday we too will have acreage and animals. Until then we live vicariously through friends, new and old.
Excellent spread on our farm! It was a fantastic visit! My kids will talk about it for ages and Jerid and I are thrilled to get such a collection of seeds–and two new friends with such similar interests! I was also wondering who is doing your graphic design…this is a beautifully designed blog. Patti is very talented! I will share your seed saving talents soon on my page. Until then, we look forward to you guys coming out to visit again…Also, pictures on here are GREAT! Thanks you:)
