Backyard Squash

Most of the bushing butternuts (C. Mochata) from the seed saved from the one large butternut last year given on the grow out of seeds saved from the prior year from long necked bushing squashes are expressing the longer necks.  The vines showing the long necked fruits are far more productive in fruit set.

There are at least some of them though that are expressing the shorter stout and thick neck.

The Mandan squash (C. Pepo) are just now setting fruits.  Since they harvested them traditionally on the 4th day after the flower shriveled I suppose we will be eating these this weekend.

There are quite a few set fruits on the Arikara/Knife River landrace vines.  This is the largest so far, being about 8 inches long.

And that is all I wanted to do today.  Meant to take these photos last night, but the camera needed a charge so I left it plugged in all night and it performed as requested.
