Working at putting gardens to sleep. Of all things, we have not frozen out yet here on the island, and are still getting beans and tomatoes from the garden here. At the Ness farm though, it froze out a few weeks ago, and today Nell and I cut the wire off of the trellises, rolled it up, and pulled the posts so Lance can get the whole garden space tilled and seeded with a cover crop.
As we got that done, we found another gallon of dry bean pods as well. Growing them on trellises worked really well, and got plants beyond the encroachment of weeds when we started losing time we would have spent weeding.
Nell and I also dug the last two rows of Red Cloud potatoes. Maybe another 50 pounds. Leaves us with a good supply for winter.
So there was a nice 10 pointer we had not seen before that went past the camera at what would be early shooting light.
And a nice 8.
The big 8 is still sticking to nocturnal hours.
This guy showed up at dusk.
The doe and her fawn are still hanging out at all times of day, browsing the acorns that are all over the ground.
There is that lopsided 8 again. And this cute guy decided to bed down in front of the camera at first light.
My girls are pretty excited about the hunting planned for this next weekend. With the sheer numbers of different bucks wandering around I have high hopes that we all fill our tags. The last big food gathering time of the year and it is almost here.
