Evening At Pasture Adickes Farm

IMG_6351

Last night we got in a good solid two and a half hours in the evening, ahead of the rain, and the garden there is really looking nice.  First, we went through the garden and picked rocks and bits of wood large enough to mess with a lawn mower, as soon I am going to be mowing between the rows.

IMG_6347IMG_6346After making a good sized pile next to the driveway, Patti and I got to more detail oriented maintenance work while the kids took off to play with the kids and animals.  Except for Junior. Junior had a good time helping Patti weed, and the cats enjoyed the perch Patti gave them.

I gave the Bear Island Flint, which I hilled up last week, a good shot of diluted fish emulsion, as well as the hills of corn/beans and squash in the 3 sisters planting experiment.  I also hilled and side dressed with 10-10-10 all of the long hills of popcorn.  That was one of the most pressing things in my mind, to get done before the rain we had last night.  No photo of that as it was in the last light.

That is just a shot of Phoebe happily running across a field of oats.

The incoming storm showed a beautiful front and made for a stunning sky.

Not that it is a good shot, but we had a sandpiper in the waning light trying to keep us away from the oats.  No interest in looking for her nest and possibly stepping on it, but was fun having her trying to draw us away in the waning light from the edge of that field.

Only thing that has not emerged well there is the long row I did of Hendersons Lima beans.  For 90 feet of row, I have one up.  Not sure if the seeds were bad, or if they cannot handle emergence in the heavy clay soil.  If there is nothing there by early July I am going to replant it with basic bushing green beans.  Not going to waste the row space.
