Puttered about in the garden, cleaning things up, planting peas, reburying garlic the cats or squirrels dug up, and just enjoying an evening after work with Violet. Nanking Cherry trees are blooming. Not seeing any pollinators to speak of, but no freezes in the forecast so hopefully a good set of fruit this year.
Have yet to clean out the pond. Another thing on the list of things to do so the goldfish can get out of the tank in the breezeway where they sat all winter being bored and not eating mosquito larva.
The horseradish is coming up beautifully this spring. I didn’t harvest any last fall, letting it go two years this time to see the difference in root size. Tops poking out of the ground are a good two inches across on the crowns.
This is a Red Lake Currant. I have two which were a gift from a friend and they are both loaded with buds which has me excited. I have loved making hot pepper jelly from those mixed with strawberries, but prior years I got the currants I used from him.
The 14 rhubarb I split off of piece of crown from my parent’s plants last year are all up and looking happy this year. Hopefully we have a chunk of land in a few months to move them to.
…and that is just a shot of an Arikara sunflower I left standing for the birds last year. Suppose will have to take it down at some point here, but it is still beautiful in its own way.
