A Weekend of Food

I did BBQ beef ribs from the cow I killed this last fall.  We have Tonka Grill nearby, and every once in a while we treat ourselves to their smoked ribs.  Have to admit, theirs were better, but it was a meat and smoked thing, not a sauce thing.  I made my own sauce and it kicked ass and made me happy, and the ribs are all gone now so they were happily edible.  Delicious with enough sauce on them.

Did chili this weekend too.  That took longer, and I started it before I started the ribs, honestly.  On Thursday night I started cooking a huge knuckle from the cow, and that simmered, covered on the stove top, until Saturday morning.  I started beans soaking at the same time.  Here are the beans rinsed and just prior to heading into the slow cooker.

Kind of the usual suspects there.  That is the beans, onions, garlic, squash, the meat and stock from cooking the knuckle (all that was left was two clean bones) and chilis.  When the BBQ was gone, the chili was ready, and we feasted on that the rest of the weekend.

Made bread all weekend too.

Windchill was running close to -20 all weekend, and honestly, I would have gone fishing, but we had planned on company for today, which canceled last minute and I had bread in the oven so I decided to stay home, and, well, eat more.

So I put a fish on the top of one of the loaves.  Sort of like fishing.  Only it is bread. <grin>
