Cats & Pigs

Phoebe and I went to play with friends today.  Got us out of the house on an unusually wet and warm day here in December.  Over 50 degrees.  Fog.  Mist and rain.

The usual shoulder ornament was there to greet me.

A sow dropped her litter a few days early in the woods, which was an adventure getting her and babies rounded up, moved a couple hundred yards through unseasonable mud,  and inside.

Lost one piglet in the woods.  Jerid calls this sow “the dumb one” as she has issues with stepping on them when they are brand new.  But only one, out of ten, so a litter of 9 for her.  Jerid knocked together a quick spot for them in the shed and once the mom had calmed down things seemed not too much the worse for wear and was a fun unexpected adventure with an uncooperative pig, and a lot of handfuls of squealing nipping piglets.

During all of this the kids were inside making gingerbread houses.

Overall, not a bad way to spend a December Saturday.
