Not Enough

Only 4 hours out at the Ness Farm gardens.  Body is very unhappy with me.  Weeds are coming up so I took a stirrup hoe to the area around one of the pea trellises.  Nell stuck with me long enough to get about 1/3 of the trellis up, but then abandoned me to play with her friend Henry who lives there.  I need 2 people to string it so that ended that.

So I put in a row of potatoes.  Turned out I had forgotten most of my potatoes, so it was just the one row.  Then I took a stirrup hoe to that corner of the garden, scraped it all off to kill the new weeds, and planted the whole thing in Painted Mountain flour corn and surrounded it with hills of Arikara squash.  It was difficult to work with the soil.  Although the top half inch has dried, the soil underneath is wet from weeks of rain and clumps in the hoe and rake.

When I had done as much I could, I painfully packed up and took Nell over to David’s house where I had dropped the rest of the family off earlier in the day.

Patti had cleaned out the old horse stall under the back of the garage and got the wood for building the chicken coop and laying boxes.  David had made a pasta dish and invited some other friends over.  We ate, talked for a while, then headed home.  If not for my back having an issue I could have got a lot more done, but grateful for what I did get done.
