Still A Winter Wonderland

IMG_2826

We have about 3 feet of snow on the ground, and a storm is adding to that by about another foot of heavy wet snow today.  The drift in the middle of the back deck is about 4 feet high and makes a good look out post for the dog.

Before this storm hit, I did go out into the back yard to do some pruning before the snow was so deep as to be impassible.  It still nearly was so, but I did manage to train and prune the older grape vines.  Ones planted this last summer are completely buried by the snow so I am just going to leave those be.  Prunings from the Kleffman apple tree are stored now as scion wood for grafting later this year, and the grape vine cuttings are waiting to be rooted as well.

I am not minding the winter yet.  A lot of my friends are all ready for spring, but I am enjoying the time relaxing, knowing that the gardens all buried in snow are safe, and that I still have plenty of time to start plants.  Not hurrying anything.

Physically, I have been using up pretty much all my body can do getting to work and back.  Most days I am getting a workout in as well, but hoping to be replacing that with garden time in a few months.  Need to get planning on the peppers and tomatoes here soon, and a few herbs.  I could have started some things already, but I am passing on the long season peppers this year as I have plenty of dry ones, and about 3 years of hot sauce made.  Going to concentrate on a few other varieties I have been planning on growing, but had not got around to yet.

Not going to bore you with lots of photos of snow.  If you want to know how much snow Minnesota has, the weather stations have posted plenty of pics.  There is a lot.  We are getting more.  Another Arctic blast of cold will settle here in a few days.  It is still deep winter.

<grin> It is what it is.
