Potting Up

Just over 4 weeks since the Flat Leaf Italian Parsley seeds were sown, and the plants, from tallest true leaves, to the end of the root system, are generally over 8 inches long.  Pretty impressive really.  After untangling them all I picked out the best 30 and potted them up in various ways, in pots ranging from 4″ down to 2″ multi packs I had saved.  Some of those might get pretty root bound before I get them into the ground, but I can always trim the roots when I plant them to encourage new growth.

The tomatoes I started a bit ago are emerged nicely.  No warm weather trend yet in the forecast, but as I said, you can always hope, wish and dream.

Three types there.  All the way to the back is Rumi Banjan, middle is Gallina, and front is Coldset.

The Sweet Italian Basil, and Genovese Basil seeds all emerged fine, so I guess my old seed for them is holding germination rates without any issues.  Keeping these going all the way to really warm weather (dont want to plant them until nights are not dropping below 50 degrees) might be a challenge, but what the heck, we will just toss them into a pasta dish if they get too unwieldly.

If I had been up to it, and wanted to dig around for more pots, the two types of kale I planted are getting to the point where they need to be potted up as well.

Red Russian

Dwarf Blue Scotch

The next ten days (extended forecast) has temperature fluctuations from -9 degrees to +30, so not a chance of the snow melting, ground thawing, or ice receding on the lake.  No worries though.  This is Minnesota.  We usually have winter.  Cannot really complain when we do.
