Sorting Things, Making a Mess

I am, by nature, not a very organized person.  God has seen fit to laugh at just about every plan we have had, be it a 10 year plan, 5 year, 1 year, or for that matter, just a couple of months, or hours.  So instead I have gone with a rough idea of how I want things to work out, and even that seems to be of low percentile probability to be seen to fruition.

This is just the smaller cases from inside one of my large cases of seeds.  Kind of a jumble.

This does not bode well for keeping track of things in general.  I found 3 unopened packs of rutebaga seeds, all unopened, from last year.  Of course in a different bin was the opened one I had to buy when unable to find any of the other three.  Or course all except the first were purchased because I could find none of the previous ones.

There are a lot of old seeds in there I am finding as well.  Some I am just tossing.  Onions and carrot seeds do not keep well, especially just at room temperature.  At 6-8 years old I am not going to waste my time on them.  Others, like various cabbages I am going to do some germination tests to see if they are still reasonably viable.  Probably a dozen different kinds in various quantity, anywhere from 3-8 years old.  There is quite a few things I have never grown but bought seeds for.  I found Red Russian Kale seeds, in unopened packs, from the last three years.  I knew I had bought them last year and had planned on getting them in the ground when we got back from vacation where I had the garlic previously.

Another one of those plans that never happened last year, though they are now growing happily downstairs under the grow lights now.

Apparently I grew nearly three dozen kinds of beans last year, including the F2 Hidatsa Shield/Dragon Tongue cross and cowpeas.  Made for a colorful bean soup combination, but I am still not sure if I found them all.  With what I went through I also found two dozen different kinds of tomato seeds, and some more people had sent me that I have not grown yet.  One, Manitoba, was on my list of tomatoes to try but had forgotten that I already had seeds.  Maybe I will start some of those now.  A friend of mine has had seedling plants under cover with snow on the ground, so not a bad one to cold trial.

I started this post 6 hours ago.  Now it is time to get the kids tucked in.  Of course, the back table is the same mess as it was when the sun was up, but tomorrow I will try to get back at it.  We will see how it goes.  Was good to get through as much as I did, but still a ton to go.
