First Day Of Fall

Well, my Pinnochio Pepper tells me that it is summer instead of the first day of fall.  For an inaugural we had some blustery wind, scattered clouds, and sun that almost had you feeling warm if you turned your face up to it and you were out of the wind.

The forecast for tonight is to have a freeze, which means that the outlaying gardens will likely take a cold hit. Here at home we are generally good until a forecast in the high 20s, as the lake here protects us up to a point.  I called Frank up, but he indicated he was good on tomatoes and peppers for the year, so Patti hauled myself and all the kids over there, and my wonderful wife picked 8 grocery bags of mostly green tomatoes and peppers, while I puttered about picking pole beans that had dried down.

Just one bag of peppers, and most of them are green.  They are all Jimmy Nardello sweet frying peppers, and initially I was at a loss as to what direction I should go on them.  Finally I settled (in my mind anyway) on seeding and sauteing them gently with a bunch of sweet onions, garlic and then canning them in tomato puree just for adding to whatever we want peppers and onions with this winter.  Just half pints should stretch them out quite a ways.

Just picking the beans really took it out of me.  Maybe I am coming down with something as well, as when we got home I shelled the beans and then napped the rest of the afternoon.  Thankfully I had the presence of mind to set up the slow cooker this morning with a couple of pounds of chuck roast (I am out of venison) crushed garlic, sweet onions, celery, carrots and potatoes so no one went hungry just because I was asleep.  Tomorrow I should get some canning done.  Need to do a batch of pickled green tomatoes too.

    firstly cut the peppers and put them in mini choeppr with some oil and lemon and then put the mix into a container and freeze it that way you can use it all year roundyou can even make different flavour portions likepeppers and parsley chopped togetherpeppers and garlic chopped togetherpeppers and cilantro chopped togetheretc . then you have more variety til next yearsecondly you can use the crushed chillies in:salsa, soups, omlettes, part of a chicken marinade, on top of fish, in prawns, in a curry, in a pasta sauce, in a chilli, as a marinade in bbq meats, chinese spare ribs hot n spicy etc .hot peppers are a difficult thing to have on their own so why not freeze the chopped portions and use em all year round (to use simply scrape what you need with a spoon or leave to defrost for a bit, use and re freeze or make ice cube portions and that way you can defros one piece at a time and keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks then go for the next bit you can even give some to people you know to try Was this answer helpful?
